Getting error "450 Transfer aborted. Link to file server lost"

Connecting through FTP with SSL, our customer gets the following error message:

450 Transfer aborted. Link to file server lost

I'm rather clueless. Google did not show me any meaningful results.

Do you have any idea what could be the issue here?
